Amphibians for Kids: Frogs, Toads, Newts and Tadpoles

Six words about amphibians, the animals that usually start life in water and later live on land: the frog; the tree frog that climbs with sticky toe pads; the toad with its dry, bumpy skin; the newt, a small salamander; the mudpuppy, a salamander that keeps its feathery gills all its life; and the tadpole, the swimming baby frog.

Mudpuppy and treefrog each fill a whole column of the 8x8 grid. Frog appears twice, on its own and inside treefrog, but only the one standing alone counts.
