Introduction

Word Search Free ("we," "our," or "us") respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you use wordsearchfree.com, how we use it, what is shown publicly, and the choices you have.

The Short Version

You can play every puzzle without an account.
If you create an account, we keep your email address so you can sign in and keep your progress on any device.
Your nickname, avatar, country flag, and game results can appear on public leaderboards. Your email address never does.
We don't sell your personal information, and we don't show ads.

Information We Collect

When you play without an account

A random player ID, created in your browser the first time you play, so we can tell your results apart from everyone else's.
Your puzzle results: which puzzle you solved, your time, the hints you used, and when. We store these on our server to run leaderboards, daily streaks, and achievements.
Your approximate country, which our network provider (Cloudflare) works out from your IP address. We use it only to show a flag next to your name, and you can change it.

When you sign in with Google

We ask Google only for your basic profile (the openid, email, and profile permissions). Google then shares with us:

Your Google account ID, which is how we recognize you the next time you sign in.
Your email address, and whether Google has verified it.
Your first name, which we use only to suggest a nickname if you haven't picked one. You can change it at any time.
The address of your Google profile photo. It is shown only if you choose it as your avatar.

We do not get access to your Gmail, contacts, Drive, calendar, or any other Google data, and we never see your Google password.

When you sign in with your email

We store the email address you enter and send you a sign-in link. The link works once and expires after 15 minutes. There is no password to create or remember.

Information you choose to add

Your nickname, your avatar, and your country, if you set them.

Technical information

IP address: used briefly to stop spam and automated abuse, and deleted automatically after 24 hours. If you agree to receive our emails, we also keep the IP address and the date you agreed, as a record of your consent.
Server logs: like most websites, our hosting provider keeps standard logs (IP address, browser type, pages requested) for security and troubleshooting.
Analytics: we use Google Analytics to understand which pages and puzzles people use. See "Service Providers" below.
Browser storage: your game progress, your player ID, and puzzles you create are saved in your browser's local storage. We use two cookies of our own, both explained in our Cookies Policy.

How We Use Your Information

To run the puzzles, leaderboards, daily challenge, streaks, and achievements
To sign you in and keep your progress on every device you use
To send you sign-in links when you ask for one
To send you puzzle emails, only if you have opted in (see below)
To keep leaderboards fair and to prevent spam and abuse
To understand how the site is used and make it better

What Other Players Can See

Your nickname, avatar, country flag, and game results (times, points, streaks, achievements, and how many puzzles you have solved) can appear on public leaderboards and on your public profile page. Players who never choose a nickname appear as "Player." Your email address is never shown to anyone. We ask search engines not to index profile pages.

Emails

Sign-in links are sent only when you request them. Puzzle emails, such as new puzzles and free printable packs, are sent only if you check a box to receive them. That box is never checked for you, and signing in does not sign you up.

You can stop puzzle emails at any time using the unsubscribe link in any of them, or by writing to us.

Daily Reminder Notifications

If you turn on "Remind me every day", your browser asks your permission and then gives us a notification address from its push service (Google for Chrome and Android, Mozilla for Firefox, Apple for Safari or Microsoft for Edge). We keep that address, your time zone, so the reminder arrives at 9 a.m. where you are, and your player ID if you have one. The reminder itself carries no personal data.

Turn it off at any time with "Turn off" on the daily puzzle page, or block notifications for this site in your browser; we delete the address as soon as the push service reports it is no longer valid. The calendar reminder option saves a file to your device and sends us nothing.

Service Providers

We share information only with the companies that help us run the site, and only for that purpose:

Google: Google Sign-In, if you use it, and Google Analytics. You can opt out of Google Analytics with the Google Analytics opt-out add-on.
Brevo: delivers our emails.
Your browser's push service (Google, Mozilla, Apple or Microsoft): delivers the daily reminder, only if you turn it on.
Cloudflare: delivers and protects the website, and tells us your approximate country.
Our web hosting provider: stores the website and its database.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with anyone for advertising. We may disclose information if the law requires it.

Information From Google

We use the information we receive from Google only to sign you in and to set up your profile, as described above. We don't use it for advertising, we don't sell it, and we don't transfer it to anyone else. Our use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

How Long We Keep It

Accounts: for as long as your account exists. When you ask us to delete it, we delete your account and your results.
Players without an account: if you never solved a puzzle, your player record is deleted automatically after 30 days without activity.
Sign-in: sign-in links expire after 15 minutes. You stay signed in for up to one year, or until you sign out.
IP addresses used against abuse: deleted automatically after 24 hours.

Your Choices and Rights

You can play without an account and without giving us any personal information.
You can change your nickname, avatar, and country from your profile.
You can clear the progress saved in your browser at any time through your browser settings.
You can ask us for a copy of your data, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete your account and everything tied to it.

To make a request, email [email protected] from the address linked to your account. We will reply within 30 days. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under local law, and we will honor them.

Children

Anyone can play our puzzles, but accounts are meant for people 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.

Security

The site is served only over HTTPS. Sign-in sessions are stored as one-way hashes, so a copy of our database would not let anyone sign in as you, and our sign-in cookie cannot be read by scripts on the page. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information.

Changes to This Policy

If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page. If a change affects how we use information we already hold, we will let account holders know before it takes effect.
