Types of Ovens: Convection, Microwave, Brick and Pizza Ovens

Ten ways to bake and roast: the everyday gas and electric ovens, the convection oven with a fan that circulates hot air, the microwave, the toaster oven, the steam oven, the rotisserie that turns meat on a spit, the cast-iron Dutch oven, and the wood-fired brick and pizza ovens that reach far higher temperatures than a home oven.

Convection and rotisserie, the two longest words, each fill nearly a whole row; rotisserie reads backwards.

Oven Science Activities

  • Ask students how each oven heats food: flame, electric element, fan, microwaves or steam.
