Mountains of Argentina: Aconcagua and the Southern Andes

Argentina shares the high Andes with Chile. In the dry north rise giant volcanoes over 6,000 m: Ojos del Salado, Pissis, Incahuasi and Bonete. Near Mendoza stand Aconcagua, Mercedario and Tupungato. Further south, in Patagonia, are the cone of Lanín, Tronador, named "thunderer" for the roar of falling ice, and the granite spire of Fitz Roy.
