Swiss Alps: Matterhorn, Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau

The most famous mountains of Switzerland. Above the village of Zermatt rises the Matterhorn, with the Weisshorn, the Breithorn and the Dom, the highest mountain entirely inside Switzerland, nearby. In the Bernese Oberland stand the Eiger, with its feared north face, the Mönch and the Jungfrau. In the east, Piz Bernina is the highest peak of the Eastern Alps.

There are no diagonals here: three words read backwards and only the Mönch runs upward.

How to Solve the Mountains of Switzerland and the Swiss Alps Word Search

"Matterhorn" and "Breithorn" both end in HORN and read across, like "Piz Bernina"; "Weisshorn", the third HORN, reads backwards and has the only W. "Jungfrau", with the only J and F, and "Zermatt", with a double T, read backwards too. "Monch" is the only word that runs upward, while "Dom" and "Eiger" run down.

Swiss Alps Activities

  • Find Zermatt and the Bernese Oberland on a map.
  • Ask which peaks line up as the Eiger, the Mönch and the Jungfrau.
  • Look up the first ascent of the Matterhorn in 1865.
