Zoology Vocabulary: Habitats, Ecosystems and Animal Groups
Eight words from the vocabulary of zoology, the scientific study of animals. Three are animal groups: mammals, reptiles and amphibians, the animals that live part of their life in water and part on land. The others describe how scientists study animals: their species, the habitat where they live, the ecosystem they belong to and taxonomy, the system for naming them.
It is a good warm-up before a science unit, because every word comes up again and again in textbooks. The two longest words, amphibian and ecosystem, both read backwards, and reptile is the only diagonal.
