Extinct Animals for Kids: Dodo, Mammoth, Moa and Quagga
Six animals that no longer exist: the woolly mammoth, the saber-toothed cat, the dodo of Mauritius, the giant moa birds of New Zealand, the aurochs, wild ancestor of cattle, and the quagga, a half-striped zebra of South Africa. Some died out at the end of the Ice Age; others disappeared within the last 400 years, mostly because of hunting by humans.
With six words in an 8x8 grid, it is quick to solve, but it opens a big conversation about conservation. Mammoth and saber run upward, and dodo reads backwards.
